Sail Maldives Rally is the first event of its kind in the Maldives, and will be the largest yacht rally to take place in the Indian Ocean. The rally will begin on February 25, 2017. The rally begins in Uligamu in the far north of the Maldives. This island is a north-western outpost in the Indian Ocean and as such, the port is a popular pit-stop for sailors traversing between Asia and the Middle East. Participants will be issued with maps and goodie-bags during the pre-registration process which includes immigration and customs clearance. It is expected that the rally will take over a month to complete.

There will be a three-day pre-registration period for vessels and crew at Uligamu, Haa Alif Atoll. During this time, participation fees will be paid and papers for immigration and customs will be processed by the relevant authorities.

It is essential that the Maldives Immigration, Customs, Police and Coastguard work in close partnership with Sail Maldives to facilitate the smooth flow of the event and to ensure all international crew are processed. We are grateful for their cooperation, as it would not be possible to organise Sail Maldives without a multi-agency partnership.

The rally will begin at Uligamu on February 25, 2017. Vessels will progress to various inhabited islands, as per the map all participants will be issued with. Each island the vessels stop at is organising a festival for the participants.

Other special activities for Sail Maldives participants will include a snorkeling expedition to Hanifaru Bay, visiting fish processing factories, cultural activities, activities in Male' Atoll and scuba diving and snorkeling at world-class diving spots. Participants will also receive a special certificate after crossing the Zero Degree Channel.

Sail Maldives concludes in Addu Atoll, notable for the former British military base, RAF Gan, which was established during World War Two due to the deep, safe natural harbour. The area is also highly-regarded for the diversity of the local marine-life, which includes thresher sharks, tiger sharks and whales. The rally is expected to take 60-70 days. It will conclude in Addu City, Addu Atoll, with the launch of the Ocean Festival.
